City and county taxes

Almost every Pennsylvania municipality and school district charges an earned income tax (EIT) on wages, usually 1% to 2% combined, withheld by your employer. Rates depend on where you live and work, so check your municipality's rate. Philadelphia residents pay the city wage tax instead: 3.735% from July 1, 2026 (3.74% from July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026). Pittsburgh residents pay 3% (1% city, 2% school district). Many places also charge a Local Services Tax of up to $52 a year, taken from pay in installments, which this calculator does not include.
