How Alaska taxes your paycheck in 2026
Alaska has no state income tax on wages. It is one of the few states where employees pay unemployment insurance: 0.50% of wages, on the first $54,200 earned in 2026, so at most $271 for the year. There are no local income taxes.
Alaska payroll contributions
| Contribution | Rate | Wages up to |
|---|---|---|
| AK Unemployment Insurance | 0.5% | $54,200 |
City and county taxes
Alaska boroughs and cities do not tax wages.
What this calculator simplifies
- Alaska leaves 401(k) and other employer retirement plan contributions out of the wages it charges unemployment insurance on, but the calculator does not. If you contribute to a 401(k) and earn less than $54,200, the deduction shown is slightly too high (by 0.5% of your contribution, and the total never exceeds $271 a year).
