How Delaware taxes your paycheck in 2026
Delaware taxes income at rates from 0% to 6.6%, reaching 6.6% above $60,000 of taxable income. For withholding, employers subtract a $3,250 standard deduction ($6,500 married filing jointly) from annualized wages and then take $110 off the tax for each exemption. Since 2025, Delaware Paid Leave contributions can take up to 0.4% of wages. Traditional 401(k) contributions and pre-tax health premiums are not subject to state income tax. Wilmington adds a 1.25% wage tax for residents and for people who work in the city.
| Taxable income | Rate |
|---|---|
| $0 to $2,000 | 0% |
| $2,000 to $5,000 | 2.2% |
| $5,000 to $10,000 | 3.9% |
| $10,000 to $20,000 | 4.8% |
| $20,000 to $25,000 | 5.2% |
| $25,000 to $60,000 | 5.55% |
| Over $60,000 | 6.6% |
- Standard deduction: $3,250 single or married filing separately; $6,500 married filing jointly; $3,250 head of household.
- Exemption credits off the tax: $110 for you, $110 for a spouse, $110 per dependent.
- A traditional 401(k) lowers your Delaware taxable wages; pre-tax health premiums do.

City and county taxes
The City of Wilmington taxes the earned income of everyone who lives in the city, wherever they work, and of nonresidents for work done in the city, at 1.25%. No other Delaware city or county taxes wages.
What this calculator simplifies
- Exemptions are assumed to be 1 for single and head of household, 2 for married filing jointly, plus 1 per dependent, each worth a $110 credit.
- Head of household uses the $3,250 single standard deduction; the Division of Revenue's withholding method lists only single, married filing jointly and married filing separately.
- The Division of Revenue's tax table is marked "effective January 1, 2025" and no separate 2026 table has been published; Delaware's rates (30 Del. C. § 1102) did not change for 2026, so the same table applies.
- Delaware Paid Leave: shown at the most an employer may deduct (half of 0.8%, for employers with 25 or more employees). Employers with 10 to 24 employees cover parental leave only (0.32%, so at most 0.16% from the employee); employers with fewer than 10 are not covered; and many employers pay the whole contribution.
- Wilmington's wage tax is figured on wages after pre-tax health premiums. The city taxes "gross earned income", so whether 401(k) contributions are included can depend on the employer.
- This is withholding, not your final Delaware tax.
