How Idaho taxes your paycheck in 2026
Idaho taxes wages at a flat 5.3% for 2026. Withholding starts once annual wages pass $16,100 (single or head of household) or $32,200 (married). Traditional 401(k) contributions and pre-tax health premiums are not taxed. There are no employee-paid state payroll taxes and no local income taxes.
Income tax rate: 5.3% of taxable wages.
- Standard deduction: $16,100 single or married filing separately; $32,200 married filing jointly; $16,100 head of household.
- A traditional 401(k) lowers your Idaho taxable wages; pre-tax health premiums do.
City and county taxes
Idaho cities and counties do not tax wages.
What this calculator simplifies
- Uses the Idaho withholding tables revised July 23, 2026. Before that revision, Idaho's 2026 tables subtracted a child tax credit allowance per Form ID W-4 allowance; the Tax Commission then announced the credit had sunset, set the allowance to $0, and told employers to use the new tables going forward without adjusting earlier paychecks. Paychecks earlier in 2026 may have had less withheld.
- Head of household uses the single table, as Idaho's withholding tables do. Idaho's actual 2026 return uses the federal standard deduction, which is larger for heads of household.
- Dependents do not change Idaho withholding in 2026.
- This is withholding, not your final Idaho tax. Credits such as the grocery credit are not reflected.
