How Louisiana taxes your paycheck in 2026
Louisiana taxes income at a flat 3% for 2026; employers withhold at 3.09% after a standard deduction of $12,875 (single) or $25,750 (married or head of household). Dependents do not change withholding. Traditional 401(k) contributions and pre-tax health premiums are not taxed. There are no employee-paid state payroll taxes and no local income taxes.
Income tax rate: 3.09% of taxable wages.
- Standard deduction: $12,875 single or married filing separately; $25,750 married filing jointly; $25,750 head of household.
- A traditional 401(k) lowers your Louisiana taxable wages; pre-tax health premiums do.
City and county taxes
Louisiana parishes and cities do not tax wages.
What this calculator simplifies
- Louisiana's income tax rate is a flat 3%, but the official 2026 withholding formula uses 3.09%, so withholding runs slightly above the tax you will owe, and the difference comes back as a refund.
- Dependents do not change Louisiana withholding: the 2026 formula has no personal or dependent exemptions, only the standard deduction.
- Married and head of household both use the $25,750 deduction (claiming "2" on Form L-4).
