What this calculator simplifies
- This follows New Mexico's 2026 withholding tables (FYI-104), which estimate the year's tax from your federal W-4 filing status. Your return can differ, for example because of New Mexico's exemptions and credits for dependents, which withholding does not use.
- Dependents do not change New Mexico withholding: the tables use filing status only.
- Every employee also pays a $2 workers' compensation fee each quarter ($8 a year), deducted from wages. It is a flat amount, not a rate, so it is not included here.
- 401(k) contributions and pre-tax health premiums come out before New Mexico tax, because New Mexico starts from federal adjusted gross income.
